DC and Maryland attorney, board director and parliamentarian, Kevin Judd, is a past president of the National Bar Association (NBA), where he has for twenty-plus years serving the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary legal association and its network of 66,000 predominantly black lawyers, judges, educators, and law students. He is a former chair of the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Law Section for the Bar Association for the District of Columbia and served as Bankruptcy Law Section chair for the NBA. Judd serves as parliamentarian for the National Bar Association, Washington Bar Association and Sigma Delta Tau Legal Fraternity, Inc. Judd also serves as a House of Delegates member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Audit.
Judd has also served as president of the Washington Bar Association, president of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, president of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, national president for the Howard University Law Alumni Association, board member of the National Council of the Federal Bar Association, and a member of the Bankruptcy Bar Association for the District of Maryland. A core theme of his leadership across all organizations has been a long-standing commitment to improving organizational infrastructures, operations, and financial positions. In 2018, Judd was inducted into the roles of the Washington Bar Association Hall of Fame.
Judd is a fellow of the American Bar Association Foundation and co-author of a Law Journal article on economic empowerment for underserved communities. He is a frequent industry conference speaker and panelist and was in 2016 honored to present an award to former U.S. Attorney Eric Holder at the Black Women for Positive Change Foundation awards dinner in Washington, D.C. In addition, Judd has spent considerable time traveling internationally, with recent trips including Panama, which he orchestrated a historic signing of an MOU with the National Bar Association and the Panamanian Bar Association. He also traveled to the Dominican Republic, where he led a fact-finding mission to investigate the plight of Haitian-descent born Dominican Republicans loss of citizenship; Mampujan, Columbia, where he met with local Afro-Colombian leaders and attorneys to discuss difficulties related to the post-Arms War; and London, England, where he co-chaired the Racism in Sports Conference alongside the president of the London Society of Black Lawyers.
Judd is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, the State of New York, the Maryland Federal Courts, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a consumer bankruptcy and non-profit association practitioner, a parliamentarian and serves as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He is a member of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia and served on the Local Rules Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia, and served as a complaint examiner for the Government of the District of Columbia, Office of Police Complaints—all in Washington, D.C.
